Evolved behaviour

This is a showcase of a few evolutionary demos, created by Mattias Fagerlund ( mattias@hypeskeptic.com ), for the pure joy of evolving.

These were created using GLScene ( http://www.glscene.org ) for graphics and ODE ( http://www.q12.org/ode/ ) for physics. For the evolutionary part, I've used a proprietary Genetic Programming system, and a (partial) proprietary NEAT implementation.

NEAT Hopper, updated 2004-01-09 (started 2002-10-17)

This time, the hopper is evolved through NEAT.

NEAT Snake, 2002-10-10

Snake in action. Slither slither.

GP Hopper, 2002-09-24

Hopper in action. Hop hop.

The inspiration for these programs came from many places, but primarily Karl Sims who pioneered physical simulations of this kind. Ever since I saw his work back in 1995 or 1996 I've wanted to do something like that. Here are a few links if you want more information;
